Fire Protection Leadership and Service 2008

“The men and women (of CJCFPD)

are pleased and honored to serve you.”

Steven Westermann, Chief

On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire Central Jackson County Fire Protection District (CJCFPD) staff, we are pleased to be participating once again in this year’s community magazine. The men and women who compose the staff of the CJCFPD are also pleased and honored to serve you. We are extremely grateful for your continued support and your help in passing a sales tax to ensure that we may continue to offer a high level of emergency and non-emergency services to all the constituents we serve.

I am extremely proud of the personnel who serve the CJCFPD. These men and women continue to demonstrate a solid commitment to the mission of the District and the protection of our community. In August of this year, we were honored to receive Accredited Fire Department designation from the Center for Fire Service Excellence. Fewer than 150 agencies throughout the world achieved accreditation status after tackling a rigorous and challenging assessment and peer review process. Firefighter Jason Bonney was instrumental in coordinating the accreditation team and working with the staff, administration, and the entire workforce to achieve this monumental goal and worthy endeavor. Part of the process involves the Citizen- Driven Strategic Plan for the District, which helps to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the District.

Part of my duties as President and now past President of the International Association of Fire Chiefs allowed me to travel to Italy, Israel, England, Canada, and many
destinations within the United States of America. I can honestly say that we are fortunate to enjoy the emergency services that are provided within our communities.
Thanks to your support, we are able to improve the level of services offered to ensure that you receive the best care and services available.

One example of our quality improvement involves Emergency Cardiac Care. Our Emergency Medical Services (EMS) crews conduct 12-lead electrocardiograms, transmit the information to the receiving hospitals, and are able to call a STEMI (S-T elevation myocardial infarction) alert, putting the hospital heart catheterization teams into action and cutting the scene to catheterization time significantly. This helps save heart muscles and results in more people walking out of the hospital who suffer heart attacks than ever before.

2008 has been a successful year for CJCFPD. We are proud of our accomplishments and we gratefully acknowledge the opportunity to serve you. If you have any comments or concerns, please feel free to contact me at (816) 229-2522. “The men and women (of CJCFPD) are pleased and honored to serve you.”
